Comics arrive on Wednesdays you see and JP, fearful that the latest issue will sell out, rushes out to purchase his copy. This regular, weekly column will highlight a particularly interesting release, written in short order, of course, because JP has to get his – before someone else does!

John Constantine is getting married? Bloody hell! It must be the seventh sign!
Constantine, created in the pages of Swamp Thing by writer Alan Moore in 1985 has since become the foundation of DC’s Vertigo publishing imprint. The hard drinking, hard swearing, hard luck, trench coat wearing anti-hero, has been battling the denizens of both heaven and hell, all the while endearing himself to readers on a monthly basis, since 1988. John is your pal at the pub, the one you constantly buy the pints for – even though he’s as likely to scoop the bird you’re chatting up as be your wingman.
And now, after burning more bridges than can be counted, after using more people than can be numbered, Constantine, under the pen of accomplished writer Peter Milligan, has stepped into a plane of existence he has never walked before: love.
Love, romantic love.
Yep. John Constantine, he of fifty (a-hem) something years of age, has fallen in love with the beautiful alchemist Epiphany Greaves, the twenty year old daughter of a London Mafioso Don. This wedding can’t end happily and with old enemies making moves against the titular mage, the double-sized Hellblazer #275 is sure to be a treat.
You know, Epiphany first showed up nearly two years ago and has been a regular supporting character in the comic ever since. She a great, youthful foil for the aging Constantine and although their marriage together makes little sense (what does in John’s world?), I, along with many other readers, have become enamoured with her vigour, determination, sarcasm, facial piercings and blue hair.
And now, on the eve of her most solemn, most beautiful day, I really worry for the future of Epiphany Greaves.
This is a can’t miss issue.
